MINNESOTA GREEN NEW DEAL
Modeled after the National Green New Deal, this statewide bill calls for the necessary action needed to address climate change while at the same time creating thousands of green jobs in a sustainable economy. This is an historic opportunity to address poverty and disparities in Minnesota while making us a leader in environmental and economic justice.
The goals of this bill will be to develop a comprehensive plan for Minnesota leadership that over the next 10 years will support a sustainable economy and an equitable transition to a carbon-free economy.
A sustainable economy includes 100% renewable energy, energy efficiency for all homes and buildings, no development of fossil fuel infrastructure, eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from industries and transportation, and drawdown of greenhouse gases.
A just transition will require comprehensive training and education for all Minnesotans to secure quality jobs in the green economy, diversify local economies, reduce the harms caused by generations of environmental injustice, mitigates deeply entrenched racial, regional, and gender inequalities in income and wealth, and promotes economic security and entrepreneurs.
